6 Mosquito Prevention Tips
1. Remove Standing Water
Standing or stagnant water is the most conducive condition to mosquito reproduction. Items like grill covers, flower pots, bird baths, tools, toys, and other objects in the backyard collecting water create a breeding ground. So, check your yard and look for standing water, especially after a rain, and be sure to drain any items holding water. Don’t forget to check for leaky faucets that may create puddles.
2. Clean Gutters
Keep your rain gutters free and clear of any leaves or other debris. When rain gutters are even partially full, they tend to hold water. This makes it more appealing for mosquitoes to lay their eggs.
3. Trim Landscaping
Trim hedges and bushes away from the house if possible. Mosquitoes enjoy the shady cool space where the two meet.
4. Maintain Lawn
Keeping up with your lawn maintenance is also important. Nice short grass and trimmed edges give mosquitos fewer places to breed.
5. Spread Coffee & Tea Waste
6. Create a Breeze
Plug in a large oscillating fan on your patio. According to the American Mosquito Control Association, mosquitos are relatively weak fliers, so using a fan is an easy solution to deter mosquitos and keep cool.
